But first let me confess. It takes time to find out which shade of red is best for your skin tone. Grabbing a “True Red” and calling it a day is not a good strategy. For example, your skin tone, such as olive or medium skin tone, and whether you have warm or cool undertones will affect how colors appear. The same shade of red can look completely different on two people! As someone with a fair (and freckled) skin tone, I’ve learned that I can’t just grab any red tones and walk out the door. It took trial and error to find which color worked best for me.

So, if you’re fair-skinned and struggling to find the perfect blush for your skin, don’t stress. I’ve done all the hard work and tested many brands and shades and today I’m sharing the best!

Despite my love for the classic red lip, I admit it can sometimes be a bit overwhelming to see all the options in front of you. If I know what I’m looking for, I can eliminate most things right away, even bosses and formulas. It really helps me narrow down the field and find great red lipsticks faster. This is what I’m looking for:

Fair skin has cool undertones. You’ll find a common element in the 6 red lipstick shades we’ve shared below. They are all shades of blue and purple. Matching your undertones rather than competing with them will make them stand out. For us fair-skinned girls, that means skipping orange or coral-based shades for warm-toned girls. Instead, our perfect shade would be blue and purple, like Ruby Woo’s Mac Retro Matte Lipstick. from where Cooler tones really shine on fair skin and make teeth whiter and brighter. Who doesn’t want that?

Honestly, it’s not a science, it’s mostly about personal preference, but the type of formula you choose affects things like pigmentation and staying power. You will be more attracted to one or two types of finishes than others. Want to see how to make your search even easier?

Pick Your Pout Finding The Perfect Red Lipstick

Makeup artists divide lipsticks into six main categories. Each offers a different look and has different pros and cons.

The sheer lipstick has a high oil content, so you don’t have to worry about applying it. It reminds me of a lip balm in lipstick form. The downside is that it doesn’t last long and you have to reapply it throughout the day. Sheer lipstick is a great choice if you want to create a more subtle look, as it offers subtle color along with subtle shine.

Closely related to sheer lipsticks are cream lipsticks. Cream lipsticks are slightly better as they have a higher wax content. I still don’t think it lasts long, so I have to reapply it throughout the day. Creams often contain ingredients like aloe and vitamin E to provide extra nourishment.

I’m sure we all know gloss. It has high gloss and low pigmentation and is usually applied with a brush. Gloss is usually not my choice as it focuses more on shine than color. I like more saturated and darker colors, but if you’re just starting to dip your toes into red, gloss is a good starting point.

Matte lipsticks have become quite popular over the past few years. It provides a smooth, even finish (ie no shine) and can make colors stand out. It doesn’t fade or smudge easily, requiring little maintenance throughout the day. However, since it has a matte finish, it is essential for lip makeup. It’s not a formula you throw out the door.

The satin finish is somewhere between creamy and matte. It’s brighter than matte, but still makes darker colors stand out. It is not as nourishing as a cream and does not hold matte. But if you don’t need to worry about reapplication, I don’t mind it as satin lipsticks provide great texture!

Lip stains literally stain your lips. Hi, this is a long lasting color! The lip paint has very little shine, but you can always spray it on if you want a brighter look. As a mat, apply over time. Stains outside the line are really hard to remove!

Bet I’ve tested it over the years
