How To Choose The Right Size Rug

How To Choose The Right Size Rug – I am often asked how to choose the right size rug for under the dining table, under the bed, for the entryway, and really any area! And while we’re on the subject, there’s only one design rule I believe in – you should choose a rug that’s the right size for your room! I have an old blog post about choosing the right size rug (here) – even Joanna Gaines changed her mind from choosing a rug that’s too small to choosing the right size for the room and furniture. Let me show you some of my tips from some makeovers we have done in the past.

In my sister’s bedroom makeover, we actually tried two different rugs! The picture above is an 8×10 charcoal rug that I originally ordered but couldn’t find at the time I needed to take a picture. So I painted with a light rug that was 6×9, which was too small for the room, and fun to see the light verses in the dark.

On the queen bed we made the rug 8×10. I wanted to go bigger because there was room and it breaks up all the gold floors and gold wallpaper.

I got an 8×10 for my sister’s bedroom to brighten the room and contrast with the dark carpet. You can find the rug here.

We have a 5×7 queen bed in this small bedroom and it really pulls the whole room together! Find the rug here.

Yes, we install carpet over carpet! It really adds a lot to the room. We painted a 5×7 on the rug in the little girl’s room.

I used this rug here! I love how you paint the wall color. (See here for more information on this site).

In this bedroom makeover, we actually went from a 9×12 rug to a 6×9! It’s a queen bed and matches the carpet and the room well! The rug extends about 2 feet from the bed (find the bedroom decor here and the rug here).

Again, in the bedroom makeover, notice that the carpet is not under the nightstand. This is an 8×10 with a queen bed. (Find the room makeover here and the rug here).

I did this makeup for my friend Amy. We carpeted it for the master bedroom. This is a great way to make your favorite rug work in a smaller space and save money 0, unless the sofa above is a budget rug (see the fix here) – rug here.

Rug Buying Guide

This is a smaller room, but it’s a good example of how we can transform a rug to fit the shape of the room. I usually cut the rugs horizontally to break the shape of the bed, but this was the length of the bed. It’s also nice to see that a rug adds so much to a room, even on a rug. (Find the makeup here and the rug here).

To make this bedroom we made a king size bed with an 8×10 rug, I actually showed how the light sofa looks from the dark! Find two possibilities for this transformation.

And for those of you still wondering if you should put carpet over carpet – yes! A rug over a rug is always a great way to define a room and add color if you want! (Find the bedroom makeover here and the rug here).

You can see that I put two rugs on our front porch, the door mat was too small by itself to “know that there are a lot of plants”. I folded it with a rug I had on hand to at least extend the width of the door. I recently ordered this 3×5 rug for our back door, I can’t wait to show you!

How To Choose The Right Size Rug: A Living Room Rug Guide

I am a firm believer that the front legs of your couch should rest on the carpet and the front legs of any chairs you may have in the area. It really ties everything together. If you choose too big, everything will look floating and ungrounded. We have this rug in our living room and although I love the color, it is a very nice rug and has a fringe that you can step on when people walk into our house (because the rug falls apart). quickly). I recommend this rug for a bedroom or living room that doesn’t get a lot of traffic.

We moved to the carpet (I gave the other top to my friend for a makeover). The rug is a little larger, I prefer a 6×9 in our living room, but sometimes you just have to fit the size of the rug, so here is a 7 6″ x 9 6″. This new rug is screen printed – I thought it was a crochet rug online, I was totally fooled. But it makes sense for the price. Also, if the screen is printed, I don’t mind if it’s in a high traffic area.

In fact, I like to pick a rug before I pick anything else! A rug makes the statement, and sometimes it’s the hardest to find. In this family room makeover, I chose a multi-colored rug because the rest of the furniture is neutral. (Find the rug here).

This was the makeup we did for my friend Sara (see the makeup here) and find her rug here. Again, notice how the legs of the front couch and the legs of the front chair are on the carpet! We also went with a patterned and darker rug because it’s a higher traffic area before they had a really light jute rug.

The home has an open floor plan, so it’s important that everything works well together and coordinates. I’m really trying to think how this should work well in every home. We were renovating the entryway and wanted the carpet to match the painted front door and entryway. This rug does just that! (Find the rug here).

In the family room, we went with a darker rug to define the room and reflect the light unit! (Find the rug here)

I don’t have many photos of the dining room or kitchen table on the rug. But if you want to do this, you must make sure that the chair is still on the carpet when you take it out. I think it’s a completely personal choice whether you put a rug under the table or not. I would recommend going with a rug that you can easily clean up any mess!

I usually follow the same rules in the home office as I do in the dining room. You want your table to stay on the carpet when the chair is removed from the table. Find the rug in my sister’s home office makeover here.
