Here are some of my favorite inexpensive rugs. Having a small carpet in the bedroom will reduce all your efforts. However, buying a large rug can take up a lot of space and make your bedroom feel cluttered. The key is to find the middle ground. To help you out with this, I’ve put together a handy guide (or so I think) that will answer your rug buying questions.
How To Choose A Rug For Your Bedroom
Before we get into what you need to know when buying a bedroom rug, let’s talk about some common words and terms related to rugs. I wish someone had told me this earlier. Understanding these carpet terms will help you explore your options.
Guide To Rug Sizes: How To Choose The Right One
One of the most important things to consider when buying a rug for your bedroom or how to install a rug in your bedroom is the size of the rug. Now this is determined by the size of your room and what you are offering. As a general rule, bigger is always better thought out. With a large rug, you enhance the look of your room and anchor the space. Small bowls can work well as accents rather than as entry points.
Let’s start by finding the right rug for the king bedroom. The right size of rug will depend on the size of the room (large living room or small bedroom), the number of rugs you want, and the placement of rugs under the bed.
Depending on the design, your rug will be between 2’6″ and 9″. The length you need depends on how you install the rug. If you decide to put a rug under the bed, you’ll need two nightstands (although I recommend a nightstand regardless of the rug!) Don’t forget to add music to play at night.
Most wardrobes that work well with a king bed are larger (depending on the size of the bed). Of course, that means you’re using carpet! If you decide to put a rug on each side of the bed, you will need a rug that is three meters wide.

As with queen beds, you have a choice in choosing the size of the rug for the queen areas. You want to plan not only the size of the room, but also the placement of the furniture. Usually the rug(s) should be in front of your nightstand, but the final placement is up to you!
You have six different lengths to choose from when choosing an area rug. You need to check the length of your rug to accommodate different pieces of furniture (such as a sofa bed). If the carpet is slightly stretched, your furniture may become uncomfortable due to the slight change in floor height.
The carpet design you choose will directly affect the width you need. I personally like a narrow carpet, it rises and does not fit under it; instead, it sits in front of the nightstand (see the “6′ x 9” example below). This piece of furniture doesn’t leave a mark on your carpet and looks great at the same time!
What Size Rug Do I Need For My Bedroom? Living Room? Dining Room?
You’ll have six options to choose from when trying to find the right rug size for your queen bed setup. 2’6″ x 8′ isn’t as popular as others, but I think – if you get the right rug – it can look great!
When choosing a rug size for a full bed, you have five different sizes and six different options to choose from. If space allows, I personally recommend two nights with rectangular rugs and a chair under your bed!
The shorter the beds, the more effective the length of the rug. All of the examples below assume you have a place to stay, but what if you don’t? In this case, I recommend adding runners on either side of the bed (and combining them with a nightstand to create the final design).
As before, there is a choice of carpet next to the bed or carpet under the bed. If your bed is in a corner, I recommend choosing a smaller rug over a larger one (runs to the bottom of the bed). This is easy to wear and still looks good!

When choosing the size of a rug to make a double bed, you have four sizes to choose from. Some people have two single beds so I added a bonus to that! If you have a double bed, I recommend using tape to mark the dimensions of the rug in the desired area.
Very short beds go well with short rugs! However, choose the length of your carpet according to the design of the bed in the room. Ideally, you want the rug to take up most of the foot space next to the bed.
Again, the bed is important! Whichever rug you choose, it should be wide enough to cover the area where the bed stands. This will help you avoid stepping on the cold floor as soon as you wake up!
