Best Mobile Network Coverage In My Area – Updated October 5: Latest OpenSignal/Which? UK mobile speed report published. The most notable change is that EE takes back the performance crown from the three. All UK mobile operators have seen huge jumps in 4G LTE download speeds this year, but that’s a good sign. However, the coverage remains patchy.
4G LTE coverage in the UK is, unsurprisingly, not very good, according to a new study.

And OpenSignal. As of January 2016, total LTE coverage in the UK across all four mobile operators was 53 per cent, leaving the UK behind East Asia, Northern Europe and populous countries such as China and the US. South Korea, the global leader, has LTE coverage of 97 percent.

In terms of download speed, it’s slightly better in the UK, especially for the three. Over the past six months, Three has managed to increase its average 4G LTE download speed from 12Mbps to 18.7Mbps, a statistical tie with EE at 17.8Mbps, according to OpenSignal data. This is almost certainly due to them adding more spectrum to their LTE network in late 2015. Vodafone and O2 share a distant third place with speeds of around 12 Mbps.
Three’s LTE coverage (40 per cent) is still worse than EE’s (60 per cent), but this means that Three users often switch to 3G connections. According to OpenSignal, Three’s 3G network is the fastest in the UK, averaging 4.91Mbps, but EE is not far behind at 4Mbps (Vodafone 4.4Mbps, O2 – 3Mbps).
OpenSignal collects mobile data from millions of users worldwide who have downloaded the OpenSignal app. In its latest UK report, OpenSignal says 31,525 app users in the UK generated 60 million data points between November 2015 and January 2016. That’s quite decent data, but it’s not enough to get a good idea. Coverage/speed across the UK countryside.
Rather than geographic or population coverage. From now on, the application measures how long, in seconds and minutes, you have been connected to an LTE signal. OpenSignal says it offers a more “user-centric” view of coverage. For what it’s worth, EE claims to have coverage of 95 percent of the UK population, which is in stark contrast to OpenSignal’s figure of 60 percent.
Anchorage Rated As Having The Worst Mobile Network Speed And Coverage In The United States
With overall LTE coverage in the UK so low, OpenSignal’s latest data points to one key finding. Try to choose a mobile operator with good LTE coverage in your city. OpenSignal has a tool to check global 3G and 4G coverage. do it
Expand / Global LTE coverage according to OpenSignal. Note that the UK is very low on the list.
The chart above shows OpenSignal’s measured LTE coverage in 68 countries as of February 2016, with the UK in 55th place. This is just one figure from one data source, so we should take it with a grain of salt. But still, assuming OpenSignal hasn’t made some serious statistical mistakes, it’s pretty remarkable that the UK lags well behind countries like the Netherlands (84 percent LTE coverage), which are similar in size and population density, if at all. Huge countries like China (76 percent) and the United States (81 percent). All pale in comparison to South Korea, which has 97% LTE coverage.
It’s worth noting that the UK is ahead of France (51 per cent) and Ireland (44 per cent) and Italy (57 per cent) and Germany (56 per cent), so we’re not the only country lagging behind.
Switching Phone Carriers In 2023: What To Know Before Changing Providers
But why is Britain so far away? Hard to say: one possibility is that mobile operators there are still wary of the massive telecoms crash of 2001 after the hugely expensive auction of 3G spectrum at the turn of the millennium. Another option is to spend more between 3G. -2000, operators are in no rush to spend more money on LTE infrastructure. That may change now with EE and Three pushing hard for 4G LTE. The outcome of the proposed Three-O2 merger could also be significant, as the combined company would have more spectrum to play with.

Where can you get the fastest cell speed and best cell phone coverage in the United States? We answered that question by creating a mobile network index that ranks the 100 most populous cities in the US according to four different factors that play an important role in determining the best mobile internet speed and overall coverage. Using these index scores, we ranked all the cities to find the 25 cities with the best mobile network speed and coverage and the 25 cities with the worst network speed and coverage.
The first factor evaluated for each city is the average download speed, which is the speed at which the Internet can be downloaded in megabits per second (Mbps). Average upload speed is the second factor by which cities are ranked, and is the speed at which data can be sent from a device to the Internet. The third factor by which cities were ranked was average latency, or the number of milliseconds (ms) it took a device to send and receive a response from the Internet. The fourth and final factor was the total coverage score; Each city can get a total of 16 points. Cell phone coverage scores for the four major carriers: AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and U.S. was calculated based on whether the city has voice, 3G, 4G and 5G coverage. Cell Phone Coverage Maps: Who Has The Best Network In America?
Jersey City has the fastest mobile speeds in the US with an average download speed of 107.2 Mbps, an average upload speed of 22.5 Mbps and an average latency of 28 ms. Jersey City’s coverage score was 13/16, on par with most other populous cities.
Who has the best cell phone coverage? Two cities in Wisconsin have the best cell coverage in the country. Milwaukee and Madison scored 15 of a possible 16 points. However, while Milwaukee’s mobile network speed was fast enough to rank 10th on the list of the top 25 cities, Madison’s much slower network speed landed it on the worst cities list.
Anchorage, Alaska has the worst mobile speed and coverage in the United States with an average download speed of 55.1 Mbps, an average upload speed of 10.6 Mbps and an average latency of 54 ms. Anchorage was also one of the two cities with the worst cell coverage, scoring just 8 out of 16 overall. Albuquerque, NM is another US city that receives a similarly low coverage score, and their slow mobile internet speeds rank them as the fifth worst city in terms of speed and coverage. While it’s understandable why a remote city like Anchorage is on the list, why do more densely populated cities rank so low when it comes to cellular network speeds and cell phone coverage available to residents?
T-Mobile was found to be the fastest cell service provider in all but five of America’s 100 most populous cities. Verizon and AT&T were found to be the fastest cellular providers in both cities, while US Cellular was the fastest provider in only one city. This does not include 15 cities where the fastest mobile provider could not be statistically verified. Not only did T-Mobile offer the fastest speeds in most cities, but it was also the cell phone provider with the best cell phone coverage for 3G, 4G, and 5G in nearly all 100 cities.
