Update October 1, 2022: I don’t know what to think of this website anymore. My matches have been different every time I’ve visited over the past few months. It seems they are fighting to get rid of the scientific methods they use.

Mac Lipstick Colors For Different Skin Tones
We can all have a hard time finding basic matches, so I wanted to share this website I found. It’s similar to the shade-matching system on Sephora’s website. You already wear a shade that fits you and they tell you what other shades you can try.
The way this website claims to be different from other shade matching tools is that they use science to evaluate colors and then verify them by a makeup artist. List exact, ideal, and best matches. To demonstrate my experience, I show you an “exact match” result. Since I started using MAC Studio Fix Fluid** in the summer of 2020, I’ve been really happy with the color match, so I’ve been using that as a starting point.
The website gave me the shade 4W4 Hazel in the Estee Lauder Double Wear** formula as an exact color match. I love the double wear and have been using the 5W1 and 5W2 shades for a long time. I think 5W1 is my best combination but not quite, 5W2 always looks orange but works great for me in summer. With the 5W1 so close to me, I never thought I could get away with the 4 series. I was very skeptical, but I gave it a try and it actually works well for me.
I personally wouldn’t call these shades a perfect match, but the website helped me find another color match that I had never tried before (Estee Lauder Double Wear**). As you can see from the images above, Estee Lauder 4W4 and MAC C8 look very similar when applied all over the face. MAC Studio Fix Fluid** on C8 is darker, not sure how it looks in the photo but personally Estee Lauder 4W4 looks more yellow. However, if you look closely at the switches, you can see that there are some differences. The outcome of these distinctions will certainly vary from person to person.

I tried other results that the site gave me but I think they should name all matches as excellent or better. It seems to me that none of my “exact matches” were correct. But I can agree that they are definitely “ideal matches” when applied to my face. There were no suggestions that didn’t work at all. Nurse Moorea**
It’s listed as one-to-one compatible with the MAC C8, but I found it too dark. Nurse Tahoe**
On the other hand, it is listed as an “ideal match” and I really like how this shade looks on me. I’m Thinking Tahoe (in Nars Natural Radiant Longwear Formula**)
) for being one of my best ombre matches. I’d also like to point out that the C8 is darker than my current skin tone, but it’s not obvious why the undertone matches so well. If you are darker than me, you can still use the C8.

Update, March 16, 2022: The MatchMyMakeup website appears to have updated the matching dictionary. When I used the website today, the options listed were only suitable and possible matches. I have a small website but I couldn’t help but wonder if they had read my review. Maybe not, but it would be fun.
There’s even a quiz-style feature to help you find a shade if you’re starting from scratch. It uses your phone’s camera and asks you specific questions based on what you see. I personally didn’t find this tool useful and couldn’t get a proper color match using it.
It’s over there. Will it work? For the most part, I think it will. But I would define their corresponding terms differently.
Basically, this is a good point of reference. For me at least, I find this tool incredibly valuable as I always prefer very dark shades. This website has definitely helped me achieve the right depth range while buying foundation. If you’re having a hard time choosing a color over a new foundation and you already have a shade you love, matchmymakeup.com is worth a look.

If you’re an NC25 (or NC30 in summer) or have a medium to medium complexion with a warm, yellow undertone, this is a good place to start to help you find your equivalent foundation color.
Since our Mac color (or any other foundation shade) is compatible, there may be differences between what I use and what you use.
Minus the differences in skin tone depending on undertone, undertones, genetics or time of year…it all makes a difference in how a shade looks on my skin, your skin and your skin and on someone else’s skin. This reference is a tool to guide you and facilitate your research. This is not a definitive guide and may not be for everyone. But it sure helps narrow it down, and it killed a lot of people.
