How To Pick A Rug Size For Living Room – We’re back with one of our favorite topics: rugs. This is one of our most popular topics in both the “how” and “what”. And we get it! This is a HUGE piece and not cheap, so you want to get it right first, because who wants to return the rug? Nobody. So if you’re in the market for a living room rug, or just want to make one, we hope these tips will help you find one. There are a bunch of new rugs that we also produce. Enjoy 🙂
One of the biggest mistakes we see (as we said before) is “too little carpet”. However, today I will show you how to choose not only the right size, but I will also show you how to display it. It’s easy to say “don’t be too small,” but here we like to be a bit careful. So we’ve got some formulas, rules, and general “don’ts” that can help (oh, and some shopping). Let the carpet search begin…
How To Pick A Rug Size For Living Room
I know from personal experience how difficult it is to find a rug for your living room. Many are unavailable (we found a few, don’t worry) and returning them is a pain. But it is a big part of your living room, so it looks right. So let’s first get into the specifics of each approved EHD configuration option…
How To Choose The Right Size Rug For Your Room Tips
Measure the size of the rug you want with painter’s tape to get a feel for how it will look. We promise it’s a life saver.
If you have a large enough room and want to have all of your conversation pieces in your rug (like the couch, accent chairs, coffee tables, etc.), then make sure you leave yourself about 8 inches from the edge of your furniture to the Placemat. edge of furniture. you own the rug So your furniture doesn’t look like a child is dangerously close to a subway station. Consider your official yellow line 8″ points. Don’t leave it or otherwise.
So give yourself about 10″ to 18″ from the rug to the wall (and maybe even 24″ if you have the space). If you go too close, your rug will cover your room and look “almost” like a wall rug.
The main exception to these rules is if your seat is against the wall (or we recommend that you move a few centimeters away so as not to push against the wall). Your rug can move a little closer so you don’t waste shared real estate.
Choosing The Right Size Rug
This design is likely around these parts (and possibly the world). All parts of your furniture “play”, but find a special place. Isn’t that what we want from all our carefully selected products??
For this you want to rest the front legs of the sofa and any seat on top of it. You are not playing “lava furniture” here where the carpet is the only safe area. Let the back legs hang and take up space.
This design makes your room look bigger, even if it isn’t. The rule of thumb here is that the rug should go under each piece about 1/3 the width of the piece.
For example: If your chair is 21 inches, make sure your rug is under 7 inches (give or take).
How To Choose The Correct Size Rugs For Your Living Room
Then Emily and Orlando made a video on how to choose the right size rug, and if you’re a visual person (like me) it will help you understand why these rules will help you find a match made in heaven. :
“But EHD, I have a 5’x8′ vintage rug that fits my room perfectly. Can I really use it?” Fear not, readers! You can place a beautiful vintage rug on top of a large rug. Yes, it’s totally legal and can be great if you find the right partner.
A near fail safe way is to try a natural rug like jute as a large base and then place a smaller rug (different color and material) on top. You can take the Emily and Jenny Kane pictures above and place your small rug in the center of the large area. But if you want to make it worse, you can move them from the middle to the front legs of your chair.
It looks good but you have to be careful. First, what does “you” mean? Well, that means your rug is under your coffee table, but not your chair. I know, SHOCKING.
Choosing The Perfect Living Room Rug: Size And Material Tips
Here’s the thing. If you have large rugs that push your couches and chairs a few inches, you won’t find us if you call the police. We do not recommend more than 5 inches of space from your bed to your carpet. It will always be less and less sad.
Let’s be surprised… with carpet patterns. There are more options than the standard rectangle. These types are perfect for unusual rooms (for example, if you have a fireplace) and can be easily folded and placed, like Emily in the living room of the mountain house.

But there are no real rules for this, if you are sure to buy a share of your sofa and keep at least most of the legs of your chair in a part of the carpet.
