Is The Pacific Ocean Warmer Than The Atlantic Ocean – The first days of summer have thrown us into another iteration of the East vs. West debate: Which coast boasts the best beaches? Without a doubt, the East Coast, from Cape Cod to Miami, promises white sand and long, sunny days. But there are beaches, and there are beaches in California. To truly appreciate the West, you have to understand the beauty of the windswept, cloudless sandbars.
In the summer, the ocean air of the Pacific Ocean makes entire cities gray and cold (hence the rare distribution: “The coldest winter I ever had was a summer in San Francisco”). The Pacific coast has higher tides and stronger winds than the Atlantic coast. The ocean temperature here is also quite low: cold currents flow under the North Pacific Current. Meanwhile, to the east, the Gulf Stream sweeps in from the south and heats things up. In fact, this means that the water in Miami can reach 86 degrees, while that in San Diego can only reach 67 degrees during the hottest months. Still, the California coast has a certain mythic quality — the Beach Boys didn’t sing about Cape Cod in the movie “American Surfing.” In the song, they list five places in San Diego and at least seven on the Golden State coast to catch waves.

One of the places where you can catch them surfing is Santa Cruz. I was there last summer, a block from the Pacific Ocean, and there was a terrible background. However, most mornings my roommate and I wake up before the baristas and bartenders change, wrap ourselves in sweatpants and beach towels, and brave the foggy weather to jump in the ocean. Then we’d blow ourselves up and ruefully laugh at the absurdity of what felt like an ice bath in the middle of summer.

Hugh McDowell from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology said: “The Australian Bureau of Meteorology model is doing really well for a strong El Niño. “It’s on trend, and all the climate models are going towards stronger activity.”
McDowell warned that this year’s forecasts are not reliable. Other researchers are more optimistic.
El Niño has already developed near the coasts of Peru and Ecuador, and experts believe that a real phenomenon will soon occur that will affect global temperatures.
“If a new El Niño occurs on top of that, we are likely to get an additional 0.2-0.25 C of global warming,” said Dr Joseph Ludescher of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Research.

“El Niño’s influence on temperatures tends to weaken a few months after its peak, so 2024 could be the warmest on record.”
El Niño is likely to disrupt weather patterns around the world, reduce rainfall and threaten new fires in Australia.
But there are more concerns that as more heat enters the ocean, the water may not be able to store the excess energy.
Some studies have shown that the world is warming in leaps and bounds, with little change over the years, followed by sudden upward leaps like steps on a staircase, closely related to the development of El Niño.

Southern Ocean In Situ Temperature Trends Over 25 Years Emerge From Interannual Variability
In recent years, scientists have warned of a weakening of the Atlantic Meridional Circulation (AMOC), which moves from the tropics to warm northern Europe and then sends cold water southward across the ocean. Researchers studying ancient climate change have also found evidence that the AMOC can shut down suddenly, causing wild temperature fluctuations and other drastic changes in the global weather system.
Scientists have not directly observed the AMOC slowing. But a new analysis, published Thursday in the journal Nature Climate Change, uses more than a century of ocean temperature and salinity data to show significant changes in eight indirect influences.
“These indicators show that the AMOC is expiring,” said study author Niklas Boers, a researcher at Germany’s Institute for Climate Impact Research in Potsdam.
If the circulation is disrupted, it will bring extreme cold to parts of Europe and North America, raise sea levels along the US East Coast and disrupt the seasonal rains that supply water.
