However, after living in Oahu and Maui, Oahu is my absolute favorite. Because Oahu has the most beaches for swimming and the easiest beaches to get to, it won the award for the best beaches in Hawaii.
Hawaiian Islands: Oahu Vs Maui Vs Kauai
As Hawaii’s second largest island, Oahu has 227 miles of coastline. You won’t find high sea cliffs in Oahu, Kauai or Molokai. Oahu’s two ancient shield volcanoes are slowly melting and the mountains cascading down the island’s golden sandy beaches.
Lanikai beaches near the towns of Waikīk and Kailua are world famous. Lanikai With turquoise waters off the Mokulua Islands and tropical mountains behind, Lanikai is a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. Finding parking in Lanica is difficult because there is no public parking. Like Waikiki, Lanikai Beach can get busy.
Be polite to Lanika residents by arriving early to find street parking.
Although Waikiki Beach is notoriously crowded, this beach is well worth a visit. Located below Diamond Head and just 15 minutes from downtown Honolulu, this 2-mile beach has something for everyone. One can go surfing, boating, boating, swimming or relaxing on the beach.
Why Maui Is The Best Island In Hawaii
If you’re looking for a quieter part of Waikiki Beach, head to far-flung places like Queens Beach next to Diamond Head or Ewa Side (Duke Kahanamoku Beach).
Our favorite areas for long beaches are Oahu’s North Shore and East Oahu’s Waimanalo Beach. These beaches are ideal for walking, swimming, sunbathing and exploring.

At Ala Moana Beach, on the Waikiki side of the beach, head to the cove next to Magic Island. Here you will find a large coral reef that protects the beach, which is perfect for swimming.
But the best place to have calm waters on Oahu is the Ko Olina Lagoons. Four man-made lagoons are part of the Ko Olina resort. You don’t have to stay at a resort like Disney or the Four Seasons Aulani Resort and Spa to swim and relax in these lagoons.
The legendary Ko Olina lagoons are four bays surrounded by resorts. These are the best Oahu beaches for kids.
The Ko Olina Lagoon is great for families as the rocks create water just off the beach. Children lie on the sand while playing in shallow water. Or swim in the lounges because they look like a pool.
