Pier 14 is a boardwalk that stretches over the ocean and offers spectacular views of the city, the Bay Bridge, and Yerba Buena Island.
If you arrive at or near sunrise, this is the best place to take sunset photos. We arrived at 6:00 in the morning and were able to take a beautiful photo of the bridge at sunrise.
It’s also a great place to watch cargo ships and the many boats going in and out. Since this is a public boat, you can fish here without a license.

If you do nothing else on the Embarcadero, stop by the boat ramp and go inside. All ports are outside on the right side of the building. Inside, though, is where it belongs.

Like Pier 14, Pier 7 is another beautiful pier that offers amazing views. However, unlike Pier 14, this one is marked by antique-looking lights everywhere.

The Alcatraz Tour isn’t the most popular attraction on the Embarcadero, but it’s one of the biggest in the entire city (we think it’s only behind the Golden Gate Bridge).

Alcatraz was closed in 1963 due to heavy losses and expenses. Ten years later, it opens its doors again, this time to tourists. The National Park Service has since organized daily tours of the island.
We visited Alcatraz several times. The island is so amazing and every time we stay we discover something new (for us). We cannot recommend it enough.
The Aquarium of the Bay is located at the entrance to the famous Pier 39 and is home to more than 20,000 marine animals, including stingrays, sharks, manatees, octopus and many species of fish.

If you’re a shellfish lover, you must visit Fog Harbor. They are located inside Pier 39 and normally I don’t recommend restaurants in such touristy places. This is because they tend to rest on their laurels.
Don’t worry because that’s not the case here. Their service is amazing, the pork with celery is delicious, and the views of the bay and Alcatraz are breathtaking.
Their dishes are on the higher end of the price scale, but you can get their award-winning Celery Pork for less than $10. Add a new bowl to get more coins.

Pier 23 Cafe is a family restaurant located in the historic location of – you guessed it – Pier 23. They serve fresh fish and you can choose to dine inside or outside.
The views of the bay from the beer garden and waterfront patio are unparalleled. There’s a reason they’ve been successful for 35 years. The food is excellent as is the service.
We can’t personally vouch for these restaurants, but based on their reviews, they seem like great options:
For most people, walking will be the easiest and most efficient way to get to the Embarcadero Pier. The distance from the boathouse to par 39 is only 1.5 miles on flat ground.

It won’t be possible to get to and from every attraction because parking is rare and if you can see, you have to pay for it.
If you are heading inland, you can find parking behind the ferry building, across the street from the Exploratorium, in the parking lot in front of Platform 39 and in various buildings such as Pier 29.5.
Although walking is the main form of transportation on the Embarcadero, we see many people using electric scooters and bicycles.
The only e-bikes we found were from Lyft. They have a checkpoint outside the west building of the bus station that you can enter if you have the equipment.
