For those traveling in Scandinavia, it is important to know that Clarion Collection hotels offer a buffet dinner in addition to the free breakfast. This can be a big factor in travel costs to these countries, where a restaurant dinner can easily cost $30. Breakfast is included at all Nordic Choice hotels. The dinner is not part of the Clarion Hotels brand, only Clarion Collection hotels from Nordic Choice Hotels. Clarion Collection hotels in other countries such as the UK and US do not have this feature.)

Wyndham Hotels made a major acquisition of La Quinta Inn in 2018 to expand the mid-market segment of its portfolio. Wyndham Rewards members can search and redeem nearly 900 La Quinta Inn properties in 2019.
La Quinta Returns will continue to operate as a separate hotel loyalty program. Select Wyndham Rewards members may qualify for the La Quinta Returns program until the program is integrated with Wyndham Rewards in early 2019.
The La Quinta Returns program is scheduled to end in early 2019. Until then, La Quinta Returns and Wyndham Rewards will remain two separate programs, and members of each program can earn and redeem points according to each program’s terms and conditions. Accor Hotels owns several other economy segment hotel brands that are not part of Club Accorhotels. Ibis Budget is one of the non-participating brands. This post was last published a year ago. Since then, I have developed a new method for evaluating hotel points. The new method takes into account base rates, taxes and fees, and whether resort fees are paid during the holiday season (Hilton, Hyatt and Wyndham only). Using this new method, I re-estimated the Significant Cash Value (RRV) of Hyatt Points, Hilton Points, Marriott Points, and Wyndham Points. The new findings mean it’s time to re-evaluate which hotel programs are the most cost-effective for paid vacations. This post has been recalculated and rewritten with the latest RRVs and other minor edits (eg Bonvoy Brilliant Card offers Marriott Platinum Elite status).
The calculations in this article are based on our base salvage values (RRV). RRVs are worth as much or more than you would expect from your points. For hotels, I calculate the RRV by comparing the paid and assigned rates of multiple hotels in the United States and taking the average point rate as the RRV. For example, if an app has an RRV of 1.0, that means the app has an average score of 1 cent. Most hotel programs have an RRV of less than 1.0.
This release does not affect bonus points earned through hotel promotions or certain freebies; this entry factor is also not differentiated by the various selection programs apart from the allocation of additional points. For example, I love that Hyatt is waiving free overnight parking for elites, but that’s not the case here.

Common Pitfalls Of Loyalty Programs For Independent Hotels
*Points/dollars are the standard rate for each hotel program. There are a few exceptions. For example, Marriott offers 5 points per dollar on long-term stays.
Due to the incredible value available with Hyatt Points, Hyatt alone tops the list, despite only offering 5 points per stay.

With 14% point yield, Hyatt and Marriott dominate the upscale elites, but IHG trails behind with 13%.
The Best Hotel Credit Cards For Travelers
Many hotels offer credit cards that give the cardholder elite status. This elite status usually means you earn more points per dollar spent on your stay. That said, let’s take a look at which hotel programs are most beneficial to those with credit card status:
Hilton scores significantly lower in most of the analyzes above. It’s not because they offer fewer points per dollar, but because their points are on average significantly lower than most other hotel loyalty programs.
However, Hilton is often the most profitable hotel chain when it comes to paid vacations, as it often runs valuable promotions. For example, they often advertise promotions that offer double points for stays of 1 or 2 nights and triple points for longer stays. With just double the points, Hilton would top all of the above lists if other chains weren’t offering valuable promotions at the same time.
Hyatt ranked first (or equal) in all of the categories listed above. This is largely due to the tremendous value you can get with Hyatt points compared to the competition. That said, you can do very well with these programs with the right combination of elite status and on-demand credit cards.
The Best Hotel Rewards Programs In 2021—and Shortcuts For Building Loyalty With Each
For those wondering if Hyatt’s new categories will affect the Hyatt RRV: I don’t think it will. RRV is based on the average penny of our observed point value, and since most Hyatt hotels have not changed categories, I don’t think this affects the average. In other words, after the changes, you recalculate your Hyatt RRV.
