Pennsylvania’s Curtis Academy of Music is the most selective of any college in the country, admitting only 5% of students competing for admission in fall 2013. Only colleges that offer four-year university programs with housing are included on this map. .
ECollegeFinder also created a helpful list of the top 10 schools with the most applications, and a clear state breakdown of the number of students enrolled at each school:

This year, for the seventh time, we’re also reporting on the gender gap in acceptance rates at these schools and whether women won’t get into these colleges compared to a year ago.
We mention here that some of the top liberal arts colleges in the country are institutions for women. These include Smith College, Bryn Mawr College, Wellesley College, Scripps College, and Mount Holyoke College. Because only women were enrolled in on-campus graduate programs at accredited colleges, they were not included in surveys that focused on gender differences in enrollment and acceptance rates.
Of the top 21 ranked liberal arts colleges for which we have data, 20 schools have a majority of female enrollments. A year ago, the majority of students enrolled in 13 schools were female This is a great development.
There is a large difference in the percentage of women in first-year classes at highly-accredited liberal arts institutions. For the fifth year in a row, women made up the largest percentage of freshmen admitted to Macalester College in St. Petersburg. Paul, Minnesota, among the liberal arts colleges for which we have data A year ago, 62.4% of entering students at Macalester were women. But this year, women participated in only 55.6% of the classes.
Government Data Single Out Schools Where Low Income Students Fare Worst
Among the top liberal arts colleges in our survey this year, Ohio’s Oberlin College has the highest female enrollment rate. There are 424 women in Oberlin’s class of 2022. They make up 59.5% of all first-year students.

Women make up just 47.1% of the students enrolled at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. This is the lowest of any university in this year’s survey. Bates is the only liberal arts college ranked higher in our survey, where men make up the majority of the incoming class.
First Year Women Students At The Nation’s Leading Liberal Arts Colleges
Over the past several years, liberal arts colleges have shown a year-over-year increase — or year-over-year decrease — in the number of women taking their classes. Not so this year. This year, 19 of the 21 liberal arts colleges in our survey saw an increase in the number of women taking their classes. Only two are down from a year ago.
The largest increase of 20 percent occurred at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. 269 girls have been admitted this year compared to 224 girls last year. The percentage of women taking classes at Washington & Lee increased from 47.6% last year to 56.5% this year.
Four top liberal arts colleges reported double-digit increases in first-year female students These are: Grinnell College in Iowa, Williams College in Massachusetts, Amherst College in Massachusetts, and Oberlin College in Iowa. Last year, classes at Amherst College and Williams College had a majority of boys. However, most of the girls who took the entrance exam this year were students of two colleges.
The only top liberal arts colleges in our survey that saw a decrease in the number of girls in their first-year class were Hamilton College and Haverford College. But both these universities have more female students in their classes. Bates College – as noted above – is the only top liberal arts college in our survey with a majority of male freshmen, yet women’s enrollment increased among students admitted this year.
Korea University Acceptance Rate For Foreign Students 2023: Tuition, Admission
It is well known that women across the country outperform men in college enrollment rates, graduation rates, and degrees earned. Due to the large and growing gender gap in enrollment at many colleges and universities, it has become easier for men to enter some colleges and universities. Now, just because men have a higher acceptance rate than women at an institution doesn’t mean that men get an unfair admissions advantage. A particular college or university may have a unique pool of male applicants in a particular year.
We only present the facts and let readers draw their own conclusions. In most cases, the difference in acceptance rates is small. Among the top 20 ranked liberal arts colleges that provided data, we found that 9 schools admitted women at higher rates than men. 11 liberal arts colleges have a higher enrollment rate for men than women.

Harvey Mudd University in Claremont, California, which has a strong focus on STEM subjects, has the second highest gender disparity acceptance rate for women.
